Guest Speaker Visit

You did a nice job as a class today listening attentively and respectfully to our guest speaker. It was a bonus to have our young, inquisitive guest visit too. Mr. Abdulhameed shared perspectives and viewpoints that we have not frequently heard in the US, including what you might consider to be controversial statements. We will have a chance to fully debrief in class on Wednesday. Until then, which statements or ideas stand out to you the most? What questions do you have as a result of his visit?

  1. I absolutely loved the guest speaker. His thoughts/outlooks on America as a country, American troops in his country, his country before the war when Saddam was in leadership, his country’s present conditions, and the many different experiences he has had in his home, with his family, and school are very interesting. It was a great feeling to be able to hear and understand where his emotions and thoughts were coming from. I thought it was really interesting, yet upsetting to know that just so many people at random are people killed and for no reason except that they “might be a terrorist.” The school he taught in had “three computers and since the war they have been blown up because there could possibly be secret information on how to make nuclear/ or WMD,” once again interesting, yet upsetting to know that so many items, buildings, and people are just being destroyed over there. All in all it was an amazing class, and such a great experience to hear his thoughts and stories.
